An eclectic mix of nightlife (including queer nightlife), live music, restaurants, chinatown, high-end shopping and art galleries, The Valley has something for everyone.

Fortitude Valley is adjacent to the CBD and is the centre of Brisbane’s entertainment district. The city’s night life is centred here including most of the city’s queer venues. The Beat, The Wickham and Cloudland are all located in Fortitude Valley along with plenty of bars and live music venues.

Don’t go to the Valley if you’re looking for a quiet night out. It draws huge crowds every weekend which results in a vibrant, and sometimes rowdy, night out.

There has been a concerted effort in recent years to activate disused laneways. Bakery Lane is a great example of this. It was designed as a creative hub and was intended to attract individuals or small groups in the innovative design industry. Enter off Ann Street to find cafes, bars and restaurants.

Chinatown is centred on the Chinatown mall that runs along Duncan street between Ann and Wickham streets. You’ll find not only Chinese restaurants and shops, but also other Asian cuisines such as Korean, Indonesian, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese.

Chinatown’s popularity with Chinese Australians has declined in the past few decades and the suburb of Sunnybank is now seen as the centre of chinese culture in Brisbane.

James Street is on the edge of Fortitude Valley heading towards Newstead. It runs for a couple of blocks and contains high-end boutiques, cafes and restaurants. It’s all a little bit boujee.

Winn Lane is a tiny laneway tucked away behind the historic Shannons building just off Ann street. The laneway is home to independent and creative retailers and was intended as an affordable space for first-time retailers who are passionate about their product.
