Hop the ferry from Circular Quay to Lavender Bay, wander a winding path beneath towering fig trees, and stumble upon Wendy Whiteley's enchanting secret garden — a wild, romantic hideaway carved from the hillside.
Catch the ferry from Circular Quay to Milsons Point. It's the first stop and on the way you will get breathtaking views of the harbour, the opera house and the harbour bridge. Walk past Luna Park and continue along the waterfront. Eventually you reach a set of stairs that lead up to the tranquil urban oasis. The gardens were created by Wendy Whitely, wife of famous Sydney artist Brett Whitely, around old rail tracks in Lavender Bay. The gardens are meticulously maintained by Wendy herself and you may well see her working away in the gardens during your visit. The gardens are picturesque and make a beautiful backdrop for photos. Take a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine to enjoy while you’re there.
