Crete isn't just a place to lie on a beach and eat well — it has a genuine events calendar worth building a trip around. The island's three main cities each host their own Pride festival, giving queer travellers multiple windows across the season to find their crowd. Apollo Party Crete is the standout dance event, while visiting organisers occasionally add to the mix.
Beyond the queer calendar, Crete punches above its weight culturally. Rethymno Carnival is one of the biggest and most exuberant in Greece, drawing crowds from across the country each February or March. Summer brings open-air cinema, music festivals, and cultural programming that fills the warmer months across the island.
As with most Greek islands, the season shapes everything — events cluster between spring and autumn, with a few winter highlights worth knowing about. It's worth checking what's on before you book, because the right week can make a good trip a great one.
