Brisbane has been shortlisted as a potential host city for the 2026 Gay Games. In total, there are bids from eight cities on four continents — Auckland, New Zealand; Brisbane, Australia; Guadalajara Mexico; Munich, Germany; San Diego, California; Taipei City, Taiwan; Toronto, Canada; and Valencia, Spain.
The Federation of Gay Games (FGG) will narrow the field to three finalists later this year. An inspection team will then visit each finalist city and the winner will be announced at the FGG annual meeting in Hong Kong in January 2021.
The first Games was held in San Francisco in 1982. It has grown in to an event spanning 10 days with 10,000 athletes competing in more than 35 sports. Hong Kong hosts the next games in 2022.
