The former Catholic convent is now a creative precinct

Abbotsford Convent

A former Catholic convent transformed into an arts, education and cultural precinct.

The convent is located within a bend of the Yara River which creates a tranquil setting for the 11 buildings that make up the convent. It houses 120 studios, a gallery, cafes, a radio station and a school. Numerous workshops, festivals and markets are held at the convent throughout the year.

The rustic buildings and manicured lawns give the area a slow pace of life and give you the feeling you've left the hustle and bustle of the city.

There are a number of eating and drinking options on the site including a bakery, a Japanese soul food restaurant, a wine bar and Lentil as Anything, a social enterprise serving vegetarian fare.
