Queer Dance Party

POOF DOOF is Sydney’s maximalist gay rave: big-room house, drag chaos and laser-soaked dancefloors that turn Saturday night into a camp, sweaty pilgrimage.

In Sydney, POOF DOOF isn’t just a party, it’s a weekly ritual. Think packed floors, fists-in-the-air house and techno, and a sea of harnesses, mesh and glitter losing it under brutalist lasers. The brand started in Melbourne, but Sydney snapped it up fast – hosting DOOFs everywhere from multi-level clubs like The Ivy and Kinselas and even Mardi Gras harbour cruises on Glass Island.

From Melbourne rave to Sydney institution

POOF DOOF launched as a late-night rave in Melbourne before expanding north and helping re-energise Sydney’s big-room queer clubbing, taking over spaces like Kinselas and The Ivy with its signature lasers-and-lipstick chaos.

Expect a production level that feels more mini-festival than club night: LED walls, confetti blasts, themed takeovers and guest queens and pop divas dropping in for a number. The soundtrack leans heavy on forward-thinking house, vocal bangers and techy stompers, with local and international DJs keeping things going until very late (or suspiciously close to sunrise).

POOF DOOF also plugs straight into Sydney’s Mardi Gras season, throwing parade-weekend blowouts, drag brunches and its annual Big Gay Boat Party – a sunset rave cruising past the Opera House that sells out on name alone. Check the latest dates, lineups and venues at poofdoof.com before you pack your fan and hop in an Uber to the DOOF.

Planning your DOOF night

POOF DOOF rotates special themes, guest DJs and Mardi Gras one-offs, so always stalk the latest details and tickets via poofdoof.com or its socials before you go – especially around parade weekend and boat parties, which sell out fast.
