Heaps Gay is a roaming rave-cum-art-party that’s been turbo-charging Sydney’s queer nightlife since 2013 with sweaty club nights, live acts and gloriously mixed crowds.
More travelling circus than static club night, Heaps Gay pops up everywhere from inner-west warehouses to harbourside venues and open-air stages. One month you’re under a disco ball at a packed late-night haunt, the next you’re dancing in the sun at a mini-festival with drag hosts, live bands and pop divas on rotation.
The music runs from guilty-pleasure pop to club thumpers, with performance art, drag, live vocals and the occasional left-field surprise stitched through the night. The crowd skews gloriously mixed and low-attitude: lots of sequins, denim cut-offs, soft masc flirts and art-school energy. It’s the kind of party where you’ll arrive with one friend and leave with ten new ones and a smudged stamp on your wrist.
Because it’s a roaming collective, line-ups, venues and themes change constantly—think costume-heavy nights, pride takeovers and collabs with local artists. Keep an eye on their socials and be ready to commit to glitter at short notice. If you want to plug straight into Sydney’s creative, community-minded nightlife, this is where you start.
Because Heaps Gay is roaming, you’ll need to stalk their socials for the latest venue, theme and ticket drops. Start with Instagram and their site at heapsgay.com.au for upcoming dates and festival appearances.
