Brisbane's biggest celebration of queer arts and culture, Melt takes over the city each spring with drag, music, theatre and comedy, plus a River Pride Parade of boats.
Melt is Brisbane's festival of queer arts and culture, run by Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm. For around three weeks from late October, more than 100 events spread across dozens of venues, covering drag, circus, comedy, theatre, visual art and live music. The Powerhouse is the hub, and its riverside bars are where the festival crowd gathers between shows.
The opening weekend is the one to plan for. The River Pride Parade sends a flotilla of decorated boats down the Brisbane River at twilight, from West End to the Powerhouse. Crowds line the riverbank to watch, then the night moves on to the festival's opening party.
