One week after Sydney Mardi Gras the streets around the Wickham hotel are closed off, an outdoor stage is constructed and the neighbourhood erupts into a celebration of all things gay. It’s a much-loved event and is even bigger than the annual pride celebrations. The timing right after Mardi Gras means they often get international headline acts. Previous headliners include Rupaul, Boy George, Cazwell and Mel C.
Be sure to take the next day off work because the partying does stop at the main event. The after party hosted by Cloudland is another massive party that goes until the wee hours. It’s arguably one of the biggest gay nights of the year and often has a great lineup of acts - some spilling over from the main event earlier in the day. Cloudland is a massive club when all levels are open and at the after party the place is heaving with people in all states of dress (and undress) who have come straight from the main event earlier in the day.
