The stretch of Oxford street between Taylor Square and Hyde Park is Sydney’s gay village and has a concentration of gay bars, restaurants, shops and clubs. “The Strip” is only a few blocks long but has still retained a strong gay identity. It’s worth strolling down and stopping off at any of numerous watering holes to mingle with the locals.

If you continue along Oxford street (beyond Taylor Square) you will hit a few blocks of rundown shops but beyond that you will enter Paddington with its upmarket shops, cafes and restaurants that is also worth a look.
