Swim at an inner-city beach, walk the river on a floating path or climb the Story Bridge — Brisbane is built for outdoors.

Brisbane’s best sights are mostly experiences, and most of them sit along the river. At South Bank you can lounge on the sand at Streets Beach, a free, lifeguarded lagoon with the CBD skyline across the water, then wander through the parklands to the galleries and museums of the Cultural Precinct. The 870-metre Riverwalk floats on the water between New Farm and the city, making for a sunny morning walk or run. The Story Bridge gives you two options: climb its steel arches for sweeping views, or stay below at Howard Smith Wharves, where you can drink and eat in its shadow as the CityCats glide past. The Kangaroo Point Cliffs offer rock climbing, abseiling or just a picnic with the best skyline view in town. When the humidity gets too much, head up Mount Coot-tha for cooler air and a panorama that reaches Moreton Bay.
